Suzie The NDP Awardee

I'm usually at events where i announce others as the award recipients..Tonight someone's gonna announce me! Wahahahaha...

Instead of donning my usual BIG hair wigs for shows, for once i let someone else (my new stylist) meddle with it......how?

Nice?
Hey I take great pride in receiving this award ok!?!

Seeing the carpark sign makes me a little bit nervous...strange feeling

Here's my award, lousy picture taken with my handphone, cos silly me wasn't sure if can bring camera...tight security event la, scared kenna confiscated.

And this is what I'm awarded for ...haha! I love it, and love it more they didn't insist on putting my full name!

Post NDP for a Pole Acrobat

It has been almost 2 weeks since NDP (National Day parade) but everything is still very ndp-ish; the acrylic plaque on my table, the certificates of particpation, the VCDs/DVDs of the show friends/relatives helped me burn, the newspaper clippings of us sprawled across my working desk.... if not for all these I'd probably be suffering post-parade withdrawals. Can you blame me when towards the final month, I was rehearsing up to 3-4 times a week with the team? It was like I had my payroll on NDP.

And who cares about the sagas, I have been attending post parade appreciation dinners, catching up with people whom I may never see again after the parade, and even received the loudest cheers when collecting the certificates from Colonel.

Tonight I just attended yet another one and caught up with an old friend I remember having a crush on like 25 years ago! He was in the show committee! The force must have been hush for he had lost some of that spark. He has mellowed so much having worked hard up the ranks, and here I am, a participant in a show he sort-of co-produced, as a POLE ACROBAT! haha....he confessed he failed to realise it was me all these while. Compliment, I hope.

Well, I guess by the time I attend the next and probably the final appreciation event for NDP 2009 next week, that will mark the end of my participation in this years NDP, and I can archive the experience as one of the most memorable events* in my performing career, just like when I performed in Hong Kong for the '97 Handover.

I have to credit these girls--Eunice, Kelly, Sheree, CThong, CTeo, Dawn, V-lynn, Sophie, Judy,Jo, for making the experience even more incredible, I really really love you all a lot!....

Oh, btw, later tonight is Bei Bei, my student's debut performance at Blk 154 Lor Ah Soo. She has been hard at work and she's deserving of my support, so I'm gonna go and take pictures of her...yeah! .

Obsolete

When I arrived at my studio today, I was greeted with this mess/mass sprawled across the dance floor.

Can you guess what are these?

They are about 200 of my prized Karaoke Laser Discs, possessions I accumulated over the years when i was an avid karaoker cum singing coach, before i turned pole dance instructor and entreprenuer.
When i left my previous job at an event company, I left these LDs there for 3 reasons, the latter 2 being selfish ones. #1. I thought my ex company would have use for them since they provide karaoke set up services. #2. I don't have space in my small office to store this mass. #3. I don't know how to deal with them since they have cost me several thousand dollars to acquire and now they are mere obsoletism because I don't own any laser disc player anymore, and who still uses LDs but VCDs, DVDs, computerized digital format whatsoever

For #3, although I had no intentions to keep them, neither had I wanted to sell or discard them because they would be so worthless with these modern day technology. I recalled spending as much as $99 to buy each one of those produced by Pioneer, Toemi or Hit Pops (only hardcore karaokers will know the difference of these discs with UBest and Tailon brands..haha). The music offered by those brands were so original and mostly so pleasant to sing along with. Some of my 拿手好歌, songs which won me championships included Whitney Houston's "Where do broken hearts go", "Saving all my love for you", "All the man that I need", all sung to the versions produced by Pioneer ot Hit Pops Brand of Laser Discs.

When i stared at these LDs, fondly placing them back into their original sleeve covers & checking for scratches, I wondered about their fate. Sell them at flea market? To kananguni (rag) man? Bring home to collect dust?

Then I thought of a lovely friend, who still counts karaoke as her favourite past time. I know she would want them and take good care of them. True enough when I called her, she was more then pleased to inherit them from me.

Oh thank goodness that they do have to end up in thrashes!

Stuff you didn't see on.....

telly for the recent NDP 2009.....it's a pity, we were so pretty

Woah! FLY

And check out our doubles! woot

Thanks Jean for painstakingly searching online for our pictures!

No wonder it's called "mindSET"

Performing in NDP had indeed been an enriching and humbling experience and marked a milestone for pole fitness, that I thought would alter some skewed mindsets.

Just look at these pictures, wouldn't you agree they exude grace and athletisim, which part of it ooze sleaze you tell me? Just like a yoga pose, an aerial stunt, or an acrobatic trick, these pole stunts take months for these ladies to master and perfect.

Yesterday an event company trying to "sell" me the idea to perform at a health related event organised by the "gahmen" (ok, this is our singaporean way of pronouncing the country's rulers) for the sake of promoting "pole fitness".

His opening line was: "no budget, but you will get lots of publicity".

Me : "ya right, gahmen got no budget, who you trying to kid? And besides you sure it will offer more publicity (saga actually) then NDP? I told him no point discussing terms with me until he succesfully sells the idea to the gahmen, I believe it would be harder to convince them then us. We welcome any oportunities to champion pole fitness

True enough he had no guts to revert to me after the meeting with gahment until I called and he answered sheepishly "er ya, they said no because too sleazy!"

Those stupid minds are SET! super irritating !

Superstardom is hard

When fellow blogger and facebooker Walter Lim congratulated me on having reached superstardom after the pole dancing in NDP saga, i thought he was kidding,

But when u realise these people took the trouble to score through materials to look for
ugly picture of me, I knew i have arrived...haha, isn't the picture darn funny (scroll down)? I look like i haven't slept for a week. Hahaha...Anyway this was the week's rehearsal when we had to stand in a downpour for almost and hour which soaked through our inner garments, was mighty mighty uncomfortable.

Ah well, 2 lessons here, always smile at ANY camera that points at your direction, and wear waterproof makeup next time....

Acro Polates Girls Flew High

So now the people who tuned in just to have a glimpse of the "skimpily dressed" pole dancers on NDP 2009 are probably disappointed for 2 reasons.
1. there are NO scantily clad pole-dancers, we are sportily clothed pole acrobats of Acro Polates who demonstrated beautiful pole stunts like these
2. the less than 5secs TV footage was not enough to taint your young child's (yours actually) mind.

Thankfully the photographers & prints love us more. Pictures of the team are all over flicker, and Sunday Times and Wanbao on 9 Aug have picked out nice pictures of these awesome ladies. Well done, V, Sheree and Celestine.
10 Aug Straits Time and Today nice pic of Jud and EUNICE!
Finally a picture of ALL TEN of us

Just look at these pictures.....

Acting lessons to Act as yourself?

Posh Spice has reportedly been taking acting lessons to win a cameo role in sex and the city. But isn't a cameo role referred as "a famous person who was playing no character, but him or herself". You need acting lessons to act yourself? Duh!

有苦难言

My studio pole mats are twin mats held together on one end by stitches and the other end made attachable & detachable by velcro.

Some irresponsible soul ripped the stitches apart and left it in 2 separate pieces for me to discover the next day. Clever semomy suggested that instead of trying to stitch through non pourous PVC material, that i should just buy velcro with adhesive backing to just hold the 2 pieces together.

"Helper" assisted to paste velcro....So tell me, do you paste it on the ripped stitched end or the originally velcro-ed side?

Sigh!

sorry i think only pole people will understand else you need to imagine graphically.

After all these years...

.....i still love his humour

Today I drove down Geylang and witnessed a truck tipped onto its side seemingly from hitting a lamp post.

Needless to say, it caused a jam massive enough for me to send an sms to spider "At Geylang a truck langa into lampost and fell on its side"

His reply : " Dangerous road to drive....kua char bo only finish"

Sony products WERE made to last.....

....but not anymore.

People in events will know that I still use Sony MD (mini disc) for my performances. It's not that I am out of date and don't know how to handle an MP3 player. Only because I have loads of sources (music for my show) still in MD format and my MD player(s) have lasted at least a decade and are probably one of most reliable thing to use.

But of late am getting disappointed with other products. The Sony Cybershot, if you recall, a pressie for me barely one and a half years ago konked out on me last week after some serious photo and video taking. I sent it in together with my Sony Dvd camcorder, which was bought about 3 years ago (also a present) for repair, as my Sony camcorder's shutter would not open on it's own. Recording function was still ok unless I pry open the shutter and use an adhesive tape to stick over it to prevent it from shutting.

Yesterday, service man called to say I need to change Cybershot lens as it was rattling. Reason given...many..."may be you drop, or dirty, or wear and tear"...WEAR WHAT TEAR WHAT? IT'S HARDLY BEEN 2 YEARS. Repair man added: "To change lens very expensive, about 400 something!" Siao! (Madness), I might as well buy a new one.

Today, same service man called about my dvd camcorder (wa sony so big only got 1 service man to service both sony camera and camcorder...I wonder if I send in my Vios laptop, MP3, speakers etc is it also repaired by him).

Him : "Ms Leong ah....your shutter needs hundred over dollars to replace".
Me "What? So expensive? What is the cause of the problem"
Him : "Oh could be you drop, dirty or wear and tear"....sounds familiar.......hmm feeling suspicious.
Me "then if i don't replace how?"
Him :"oh then we just open it lor. so means cannot shut already."
Me " ok, leave it open then"

As if you think that's the end,
he says "Ms ah, you camcorder also got another plobrem"
Me : "What plobrem? Don't have other plobrem what? Only shutter cannot open"
Him : "When i try to test record, sometimes got error code"
Me : "Is it? I never have this plobrem, so what cause the problem?"
Him : "It's the head la (HIS head, I think)....But to change the head, about 400 something"
Me : "Again 400 something? Forget, just send everything back....I am changing brand"!

Pole Dance Workshop/Party at your HOME

Since receiving our new X-stage 2 weeks ago, with a performance and a road-show later, today Acro Polates delivered our 1st HOME-BASED POLE DANCE WORKSHOP cum PARTY

Ding Dong-arriving at the home with our pole-table stage
(darn! it was a 3 storey walk up)
THERE!
Pole set up at the roof terrace! Thankfully weather was fair...but a tad too hot and the pole was warmed up quickly

Instructor Eunice posing with the X-stage

Instructor testing the X-stage

We are all set for the surprise party! Sorry can't load pictures of the participants due to privacy, but they had tonnes of fun.

Select a premise of your choice, be it home, a club, pub or function hall, we set up an x-pole or an X-stage, we provide an instructor or a facilitator to teach you for an hour and thereafter you can have a party, jam or performance with it. A great idea for a hen's or a birthday party. Find us at http://www.polefessional.com.sg/

Now who's the idiot? haha

I had a rather foul Friday, first with an eye infection and a rip off medical bill, a car test drive that proved too expensive & foiled my car changing plans, then some people pissing me off, and a dinner date gone wrong because of my foul mood which also led to a cancelled late night jamming plan......uurgh!

As a result, I was home by 11pm logged on to facebook, which seldom happens, because usually at this time on this day I'm hardly home!

While I was merrily chatting with some real friends on fb, suddenly the pop up chat from an event acquaintant said "hi"..fullstop....! I'm sorry but this kind of one-liner always makes me very suspicious...so I "wassup" back.

Besides the usual, how's business, he asked BY THE WAY, if I have heard of so-and-so in the event organising industry....

My reply : "sort-of"

Him : " im looking for her"

My reply : "ok, good"

Him : "she change her number".

My reply : "She has?"

Him : "she's damn idiot"

Me : " She does have a reputation"

Him : "Is it? wat kind of reputation?"

Me : "Wat u just said!"

I logged off....

Later when i logged on briefly, i still saw

Him "i mean wat kind of reputation she have"...(i already logged off)

ok, sorry haha, i was so mean...but u caught me on a wrong day...and come'on, you already knew what I meant, and you probably already had the experience of what she's like, so no need to confirm with me and don't make me say it, not unless i know you really well

-----added later-----

oh by the way sesomy m, in case u reading this...the "her" in subject-topic is one of those i had to execise my ah-long tactic also! hey

Really got recession meh?

why is everything still so expensive?

yesterday I sent my car to the workshop for servicing. I took a cab home from ubi, which wasn't far, and that cost me $7.40. Then after doing some work at home, I headed to studio which was only about 11km away and I paid $10.40. When it was time to collect my car, I took a cab again from Waterloo to Ubi and it was another $16....Total bill $33.80.

Today i had a very mild eye infection due to contaminated contact lens. My regular clinic was closed in the afternoon and I walked into a nearby dingy, old-school clinic that still had one of the ceiling-mounted fans with decades of dust draping from the blades. One eye drop and 10 allergy tablets cost $30. No wonder I've never been in there those years I lived in that vicinity.

Tell me! Why is everything still so costly during recession? Today I though of changing my car (for work purpose ok--to a working car and not a luxury thing) and in order to maintain my current instalment, I have to fork out close to $30k for a korean brand 1.6l (my current car is 3 1/2 year old japanese make 1.6l)...uurgh!

Ah Boy's favourite Spot

When we first knew Ah Boy, he was lying under our table. I guess under the table is still pretty much his favourite spot. Maybe because it is cooler, or maybe because he thinks it is nearer to food! Lol!
But for sure, from the day we knew and fell in love with him til a year and a half later at Animal Lovers League, Ah Boy remains that cool dog with good temperament, mostly minding his own business, even if it means residing with several hundreds of ex-strays, some of them cranky & grouchy. The possibility of negative effects and influence irked me, sure our weekly checks reveal that he occasionally gets into mild fights, but mostly I think it is from self defence, but largely, Ah Boy remains a cool dog, one that makes us very proud. Above all, he is such a sweet, loving, loyal and obedient dog when in our company

Contrary to humans, pets are so much more rewarding investments (time & love). How many times have you helped and carried someone and when they find new fame, friends, success, they start giving you the cold shoulder, or attitude? I have met so many, one just yesterday.

Having Ah Boy, from the rescue to now our weekly visits has been one of the most rewarding experience. I can't wait til the day when I have him as our full-time pet.
